It’s the most wonderful time of the year as the Ballet San Angelo returns with their performance of The Nutcracker at the Murphey Performance Hall on Friday, December 15th!
To commemorate its 40th anniversary season, the Ballet San Angelo will also be showcasing a variety of well-loved classics like Cinderella (Children’s Ballet) and Contemporary Works, with each show lasting approximately two hours plus a fifteen-minute intermission. Anticipate the festivities with a delightful Sugar Plum Tea Party scheduled a week prior to the event and a Nutcracker Gallery, debuting alongside the premiere of the three-night showing.
In 2018, Ballet San Angelo’s Artistic Director, Erin Lane, was honored on Grace Media’s “20 under 40” list. As a young influencer shaping the performing arts community, the magazine highlighted her multiple achievements to which she comments, “That truly does come from the heart. There’s no quantitative way to measure what I do because it comes from that.”
Her latest work on The Nutcracker brings a delightful twist to Tchaikovsky’s well-loved Christmas masterpiece with the original narrative drawing inspiration from E.T.A. Hoffmann's fantastical tale, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King." In this heartwarming story, a girl forges a special bond with a nutcracker prince that magically comes to life on Christmas Eve, leading them to a courageous battle against the malevolent Mouse King.
On the topic of costume design for the winter production, the organization's resident costume designer, Amanda Brake, strives to ensure that each ensemble prioritizes the comfort and inclusivity of every performer on stage. “We work together tossing ideas back and forth until we have something that suits both of our imaginations, both preconstruction and throughout. It is absolutely a collaborative effort between the Artistic Director’s stage vision and my build inspirations,” she shares.
