Created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, STOMP has been the recipient of several distinguished awards since its Edinburgh debut in 1991. Among these are an Olivier Award for its 1994 West End stint and an Obie and Drama Desk Award for its original run on NYC’s Broadway. Punctuate 2023 with an exclamation point and prepare for the new year with a boom! This December, STOMP — the global theatrical phenomenon — marks four cities across the United States for a year-ender series of blaring beatdowns that’ll leave you quaking in your shoes! Its half-week run in Texas will open on December 6th at San Angelo’s Murphey Performance Hall, transporting the Lone Star State into a realm of rhythm.

“It was fantastic. So much energy. Positive energy. I love how they told a story without one word. They engaged the audience without us even knowing.”

Discover the percussive possibilities from the world around you! STOMP is a groundbreaking theatrical production that blends makeshift music, dance, comedy, and pantomime into an explosive 105-minute exhibition. Brooms. Garbage cans. Plastic bags. Bin lids. Zippo lighters. The show transforms everyday items and urban clutter into instruments of musical mayhem. STOMP was created by Innovator Award winners Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas in the summer of 1991, where it premiered to a "Best of the Fringe" Award in Edinburgh. In 1994, it received an Olivier Award for "Best Choreography in a West End Show," followed by an Obie and Drama Desk Award for “Most Unique Theatre Experience” during its first New York City run in the same year. The production was also featured in the Primetime Emmy Award-winning HBO special “Stomp Out Loud” and the Sundance Film Festival Award-winning short film “Brooms.”

The Murphey Performance Hall, San Angelo’s home for art, music, and culture, will play host to the visiting troupe this winter. Pristinely lit and backdropped with a classical finish, the theater presents a stage worthy of world-class acts, with pitch-perfect acoustics to match the show’s percussive perfection.
